Job summary

FlatironDragados invites students to join their Alexandria, VA internship program for hands-on experience in civil engineering and construction management. Interns will assist with schedules, takeoffs, and cost-effective design options, while learning from industry professionals in a collaborative team.

This paid program emphasizes real tasks, mentorship, and exposure to pre-bid planning. Eligible students must be enrolled in an accredited program and actively pursuing a degree related to civil

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited engineering or construction management program.
• Engineering or construction management-related coursework or focus.
• Eligible for intern/co-op employment while completing studies.

Responsibilities

• Assist in reviewing proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope and estimate contents.
• Help review historical data from POs and productivity reports into unit/hour figures.
• Support the estimating team by preparing discipline estimates and taking off material quantities.
• Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
• Assist with design review options and recommend cost-effective solutions.

What You Will Be Doing

• Aids in reviewing proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to help determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
• Assists in reviewing historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and person-hour figures
• Supports estimating team by helping to prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work. Assists in calculating material quantity requirements from engineering drawing dimensions
• Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
• Assists with design review options and recommends best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials
• Partners with estimating team to prepare and conduct project hand-off meetings between pursuit team and project management team
• Researches and recommends vendors and subcontractors for designated scopes of work to achieve pursuit and cost goals
• Maintains knowledge of Company’s values and strategic plan
• Support published corporate policies
• Perform additional assignments per management’s direction

What We Are Looking For

Estimating Interns/Co-ops are required to be currently enrolled in a(n) Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar program at an accredited technical college or university.
