Job summary

Jackson Thornton, a Montgomery-based accounting and consulting firm, seeks a Tax Manager with public accounting experience to lead engagements from planning to Principal review and act as the client service contact.

You will apply professional judgment enhanced by AI-enabled tools, identify year-round tax planning opportunities, and coach team members across in-person, hybrid, and remote settings while supporting business development.

Qualifications

• CPA license required; EA or JD/LL.M. also considered.
• Five or more years of public accounting experience focusing on tax.
• Estate and trust return experience preferred.
• Strong federal and state tax compliance knowledge.
• Experience with AI-enabled review tools.
• Ability to manage multiple complex engagements and coach teams.
• Strong project management and remote collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned engagements from planning through Principal review.
• Review complex returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates.
• Serve as primary client contact and business advisor for assigned clients.
• Identify tax planning opportunities throughout the year.
• Delegate work with engagement economics and team development in mind.
• Develop and coach team members across in-person, hybrid, and remote settings.
• Monitor engagement progress, staffing, and billing input.
• Use AI-enabled research and review tools while owning conclusions delivered to clients.
• Represent clients at audits and monitor adherence to quality standards.
• Support business development through referrals, proposals, and expanded services.
