  • Strong knowledge of Wills, Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Advance Medical Directives, and related estate planning documents.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and proofreading legal documents, including Trust funding documents, assignments, and beneficiary designations.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our dynamic legal team. This vital role presents an exciting opportunity to support the Firm’s established practice, in the areas of Business and Estate planning, special education, business succession, special needs, litigation, guardianship, and more. As a Paralegal, you will play a key part in drafting appropriate Client legal documentation, conducting research, and assisting attorneys with case management. Your proactive approach and strong organizational skills will help ensure the smooth operation of Firm legal services while providing exceptional support to Firm Clients and colleagues. This position is ideal for Paralegal candidates eager to grow their legal support experience in an environment committed to excellence.

Duties

  • Assist attorneys with drafting Business and Estate planning documents, including Wills, Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Advance Medical Directives, and related documents.
  • Review Client financial and asset documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare beneficiary designations, assignments, and other documents to fund Trusts and coordinate asset transfers to beneficiaries and Trusts.
  • Communicate with Clients, financial advisors, accountants, and other third parties regarding Trust funding and other Estate planning issues.
  • Legal and factual research regarding Business and Estate planning, Trusts, Probate, Trust administration, and Maryland Estate law.
  • Assist attorneys with Trust administration and post-mortem Estate planning matters.
  • Monitor internal and external deadlines and follow up with Clients and third parties to ensure timely completion of Estate planning, Trust-funding tasks, and Court deadlines.
  • Maintain organized Client files and provide general administrative and case-management support to attorneys.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 3 years minimum Business and Estate planning, Trust, Trust administration, and Probate experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of Wills, Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Advance Medical Directives, and related estate planning documents.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and proofreading legal documents, including Trust funding documents, assignments, and beneficiary designations.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, including the ability to identify legal issues and apply relevant statutes, case law, and legal authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a professional, Client-focused demeanor.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently, follow detailed instructions, and effectively support attorneys and Clients.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality when handling sensitive personal and financial information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel. Experience with estate planning (“Wealth Counsel and LEAP,”) case management, and billing software a plus.
