Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) Capabilities Development Group (QCC) is seeking professionals to advance cyber defense for critical systems. You will work with a multidisciplinary team of cyber and software engineers to translate threat intelligence into mission-ready capabilities, mentored by top experts, and aligned with sponsor needs in defense and intelligence contexts.

Ideal candidates bring a Bachelor’s in CS/CE/Math or cybersecurity, 2+ years in cyber

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or a Cybersecurity-related field.
  • 2+ years of experience developing cyber concepts, systems, or analytics, with an understanding of systems engineering or operational planning.
  • Experience developing software using Java/Kotlin, Python, C#, Rust, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, C/C++, or equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and potential to obtain Top Secret clearance.
  • US citizenship eligibility for access to classified information up to Top Secret.

  • Work with sponsors and end users in defense or intelligence organizations to understand operational needs and identify requirements.
  • Build mission-aligned capabilities.

  • Share approaches and methods with team members, APL management, and government decision makers.

Qualifications

You’ll meet our minimum qualifications if you...

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or a Cybersecurity-related field
  • Possess 2+ years of experience developing cyber concepts, systems, or analytics, with an understanding of systems engineering or operational planning
  • Have experience developing software using Java/Kotlin, Python, C#, Rust, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, C/C++, or equivalent
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good organizational skills, and the ability to work in teams
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret Clearance. If selected, you will be subjected to a government security investigation, and you should meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Top Secret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship

  • Possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or a Cybersecurity-related field
  • Can apply software development skills to different domains and subject matters
  • Have knowledge of AI/ML, Agentic AI, and/or AI-enabled cyber methodologies
