Job summary

Qualifications

  • Currently certified ESOL teacher or eligible to obtain SC certificate within 60 days.
  • Masters in ESOL or related field preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of CCSS and SC ML standards; ability to implement district curriculum.

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE:

The ESOL InstructionalCoach will work directly with teachers to bring about improvements in the classroom that will positively impact student achievement. Must ensure that the goals and requirements of the programs are met as relates to district, state, regional and national guidelines or mandates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist teachers in meeting the academic needs of MLstudents.
  • Work effectively with all other instructional coaches to provide support to teachers.
  • Create a system of improvement to constantly evaluate the effectiveness of instruction to MLstudents and provide guidance to the district and schools.
  • Use a variety of student and subgroup performance data to implement research-based strategies to increase MLachievement, including techniques to improve and coordinate a system of support for MLstudents.
  • Provide effective, research-based, instructional strategies to all classroom and ESOL teachers to improve the English proficiency and academic achievement of MLstudents.
  • Provide guidance to classroom teachers on accommodating and modifying instruction, assessment and grading of MLstudents.
  • Provide professional development to teachers in the implementation of the CCSS specific to MLstudent needs.
  • Conduct classroom observations to provide feedback and assistance with improving instruction for MLstudents.
  • Consult with school and district administration to develop improvement plan and assistance plans for increasing achievement of MLstudents.
  • Participate in various district and school meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing ESOL program and curriculum information in support of MLstudents.
  • Remain abreast of MLstudent research, trends, and instructional changes to enhance ESOL program knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as required to facilitate the progress of the district's support of MLstudents.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

Performs other related tasks as assigned by theChief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a valid South Carolina Professionalteaching certificate or be able to obtain one within 60 days from being hired.
  • If required, must be Highly Qualified in the content area or be able to become Highly Qualified within 60 days from being hired.
  • Masters Degree in ESOL or related field is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of CCSS and SC MLstandards and of the district curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Possess oral and written fluency in English. Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Experience as an ESOL and classroom teacher preferred. Experience with multicultural environments preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of five years experience as a certified classroom teacher using educational technology with K-12 students preferred.
  • Recent experience with a wide variety of technologies including mobile technology, Cybersafety, website content development, presentation creation, Microsoft applications, interactive whiteboards, student response systems, and various educational technology programs and hardware.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and communicate information clearly and concisely in a manner that meets the needs of teachers and students.
  • Extensive knowledge of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards for teachers, administrators, and students.
