Job summary

Compass Rose Public Schools seeks an ESL Teacher to deliver intensive English Language Development to emergent bilingual students across grades 3–12. You will lead LPAC meetings, manage TELPAS tasks, and engage with families while collaborating with campuses in Bastrop and Manor.

The role requires a Texas teaching license with ESL endorsement and a strong understanding of TEKS/ELPS, with occasional travel to multiple campuses.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training

  • Elementary: Texas teacher license (Generalist or ELA) with Bilingual Education endorsement or ESL endorsement
  • Secondary: Texas teacher license in ELA with ESL endorsement
  • If you do not yet have your supplement/endorsement, it must be completed by October 1, 2026.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least two years of teaching experience
  • Proven success in advancing emergent bilingual students’ content and language skills
  • Deep understanding of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and ability to design lessons aligned with these standards
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition theory, pedagogy, and practice
  • Experience with cross-curricular and integrated approaches to promote all four language domains
  • Familiarity with state and federal guidelines for Bilingual and ESL programs

Preferred:

  • Experience working with SIFE (Students with Interrupted or Limited Formal Education)
  • Knowledge of the Science of Reading and how to apply it to Emergent Bilingual students
  • Experience with EB (Emergent Bilingual) students from language backgrounds other than Spanish

Your Mission

The ESL Teacher plays a crucial role in ensuring the academic success of all Emergent Bilingual (EB) students at Compass Rose Public Schools. This role serves a range of grade levels, from 3rd to 12th grade, and may require providing push-in support for teachers, depending on campus needs. The ESL Teacher delivers intensive English Language Development (ELD) instruction to small groups of newcomer or beginner students. The role is also responsible for managing LPAC tasks, screening, testing, and engaging with parents and families.

Your Responsibilities

Instruction (70%)

  • Set academic expectations that challenge and promote growth for all emergent bilingual (EB) students
  • Build strong relationships with students, teaching 4-5 English Language Development and Acquisition (ELDA) courses to beginning and intermediate students.
  • Consistently implement an 80/20 classroom, where 80% of the time students engage in rigorous practice, critical thinking, and take initiative in their learning
  • Ensure content reflects and affirms students' identities, fostering awareness of global diversity
  • The ESL Teacher will be required to be on campus for two days per week at each campus, totaling four days per week.

LPAC and Compliance Management (30%)

  • Screen potential EB students new to Texas using PreLAS or LAS Links
  • Lead LPAC meetings (at least three per year per campus) and maintain accurate records
  • Collaborate with Campus Test Coordinators to manage yearly TELPAS testing
  • Complete LPAC and TELPAS tasks on time and with fidelity
  • Assist with coding EB student status in student information system
  • Coordinate Title III Part A parent, family, and community engagement activities
  • Regular travel between schools is required, along with periodic travel for training sessions and in-person regional meetings.

Other Responsibilities

  • Abide by COVID policies in place at the time of employment
  • Maintain electronic grade books and timely submission of grades
  • Participate in weekly manager check-ins and observation debrief meetings
  • Attend campus and network professional development
  • Participate actively in a minimum number of student recruitment events annually (as determined and network and school guidance).
  • Hold and attend parent-teacher meetings and report-card pick-up.
