Job summary

South Shore Charter Public School in Norwell, Massachusetts, is seeking an ESL Teacher for grades K–5. English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher Grades K-5

Full Time 100% FTE (40 hours per week) 10 Month Contract

Reports to Director of Student Services

General Responsibilities
  • Supports the diversity of the student population through cultural and family engagement and the inclusion of diverse learners throughout the school.
  • Supports the philosophy and mission of the school.
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of students' learning style, curriculum modification, differentiated instruction, and universal design for learning.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to see all students as part of a single team and values the importance of cultivation of school culture and respectful interactions.
Professional Expectations
  • Works towards self-improvement and advancement.
  • Meets all requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding credentials for English as a Second Language teacher.
  • Adheres to professional expectations as outlined in the Employee Guidelines and appointment letter.
  • ESL teachers are expected to review, understand, and implement the SSCPS ELL Manual.
Professional Duties and Responsibilities

Attendance is expected as requested of the following:

  • Faculty meetings
  • Level/department meetings
  • IEP/504 meetings
  • Parent teacher conferences/open house
  • School sponsored professional development
  • ESL Teachers are expected to engage in other supervisory duties as requested by the Director of Learning Services or other school Administrators.
  • ESL Teachers aid in the supervision of students at all times.
Responsibilities as an ESL Teacher

To deliver high quality and rigorous instruction aimed at accelerating English language learning, exposing students to content vocabulary, and preparing English Language Learners to move towards proficiency of the English language. The learning services department at South Shore Charter School is committed to providing the best possible educational environment for all students. As a policy, each child receiving EL support is assigned an ESL Teacher. Below is a list of the responsibilities of an ESL Teacher:

  • Acts as a point person for other educational personnel to go to for questions and concerns regarding English Language Development.
  • Educates linguistically diverse students.
  • Plans and develops lessons in English Language Development.
  • Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Has a working knowledge of WIDA and Common Core Standards.
  • Evaluates each student’s progress in the acquisition of listening, speaking, reading and writing in English.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure achievement of ELs across content areas.
  • Completes documentation required by SSCPS or the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Participates in professional development activities consistent with the goals of SSCPS and needs of English Language Learners.

Salary: $57,741 to $105,768 Per Year

Job Requirements
