Job summary

IOTA Community Schools in Memphis, TN is seeking a dedicated educator to implement rigorous instruction aligned with state standards. The role involves collaborative planning, data-driven progress reporting, and leading student activities within a mission-driven school community.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and Tennessee teaching licensure (or transfer). If unafflicensed, a Practitioner pathway is available while pursuing certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Valid Tennessee teaching license with appropriate endorsement or transferable out-of-state license within 90 days.
  • If teaching license is not held, eligible for Practitioner license while completing graduate coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Attend professional meetings and training to maintain and improve professional competence; staff meetings and committee work; school day runs 7:30 a.m. to 3:30‑4:30 p.m.
  • Effectively instruct students using standards with AV aids to engage learning.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to align curricula with state and school requirements.
  • Set clear short‑term and long‑term goals to drive instruction.
  • Develop weekly and long‑range lesson plans with standards, objectives, assessments; review homework.
  • Use data to evaluate pupil progress and issue meaningful reports to inform parents.
  • Create and implement student intervention plans when necessary.
  • Maintain student management policies and report to administrators when necessary.
  • Maintain effective supervision and discipline in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to address student needs.
  • Provide accommodations and modifications for growth and success of all students.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities.
  • Lead and participate in student activities and sponsor organizations.
  • Coaching a sports team and chaperoning activities as part of committees.
  • Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting abuse and neglect.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Position Responsibilities
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence. Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required. The approximate school day for staff runs from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30‑4:30 p.m.
  • Effectively instruct students in assigned content area(s) as prescribed by IOTA’s academic content standards through direct instruction, demonstrating, and using audio‑visual aids and other materials to supplement presentations with the overall goal of engaging student learning.
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team and within content areas planning and aligning curricula to ensure that instruction follows curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
  • Set clear short‑term and long‑term goals to drive instruction.
  • Develop and submit weekly and long‑range lesson plans containing standards, objectives, essential questions, assessments and lesson plans; assign lessons and review homework.
  • Consistently use data to evaluate pupil progress, record results, and issue meaningful reports to inform parents of progress.
  • Create and implement student intervention plans when necessary for students.
  • Maintain the school’s student management policies and procedures (i.e. attendance records, dress code, etc.) and report to the school administrators when necessary.
  • Maintain effective supervision and discipline in the classroom.
  • Work with other teachers and administrators to address and resolve student needs.
  • Provide necessary accommodations and modifications for growth and success of all students.
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Lead and participate in student activities such as sponsoring student activities or student organizations.
  • Coaching a sports team, working with parents and the community as part of a committee or group, provide morning or after school supervision, and chaperoning student activities.
  • Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Candidates must have either (a) valid Tennessee teaching license with the appropriate content endorsement to teach or (b) a valid out of state license that can successfully be transferred to Tennessee within 90 days of employment, or (c) demonstrate you are on track to complete the necessary steps towards certification in Tennessee.

Additional Information

Our teacher salary is based on years of certified experience and ranges from $53,000-$75,250. We also offer a comprehensive benefits plan as well as the opportunity to impact a growing, mission‑driven organization that is committed to the success of all students.
