Job Description

POSITION: English as a Second Language Teacher

REPORTS TO: Principal / ESL Coordinator

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months

Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher provides specialized instruction for the purposes of developing English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while utilizing appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies considering the English learners’ current proficiency levels.

The ESL teacher serves as a school resource by providing classroom teachers with support and information specific to ELs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Degree Level: Bachelor's Degree in Education
  • Possession of or ability to obtain ESL Certification
  • Experience of successful teaching experience with second language students
  • Must have current knowledge/training in best practices and instructional strategies for use with EL Students
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Must be willing to travel to multiple schools to serve students
  • Must be able to work collaboratively within and across schools and grade levels
  • Successful completion of ESL speaking and writing rubric
  • Bilingual English / Spanish is a plus

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
