Job summary

City Colleges of Chicago’s Truman College is seeking an experienced Part-time Adjunct Faculty - ESL to teach in-person and online courses, including Zoom sessions, for the spring semester and beyond.

Ideal candidates hold a Master’s in TESOL or Linguistics (M.Ed ESL with endorsements considered) and have college-level teaching experience. The role emphasizes diverse student learning, effective pedagogy, and engagement with instructional technologies.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in TESOL or Linguistics or M.Ed ESL with endorsement and 5+ years of experience.
• College teaching experience preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication required.
• Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.

Responsibilities

• Instruct in-person classes or online synchronous classes using Zoom.
• Design activities, assignments, and assessments to meet learning outcomes and promote student participation.
• Demonstrate flexibility in learning and using course-related texts and Brightspace, Navigate.
• Create an effective learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and helps students solve problems using disciplinary thinking.
• Employ formative and summative assessments with prompt feedback to ensure student learning and outcomes.
• Hold office hours before or after class to help students reach academic and career goals.
• Foster a classroom environment that respects diversity and supports every student’s learning potential.
• Communicate with department leadership about challenges and participate in department meetings.
