Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking an Exceptional Student Education Specialist to provide on-site procedural and curricular assistance for students with disabilities. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or higher, Florida ESE certification, and at least three years of ESE teaching experience, along with computer skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
• Florida certification in at least one area of exceptionality.
• Three (3) years of successful teaching experience in Exceptional Student Education.
• Computer skills are required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the principal’s designee for all ESE staff and coordinate required ESE meetings.
• Assist regular education teachers of students with disabilities to implement the IEP and monitor progress of IEP goals.
• Assist staffing committee members in developing appropriate IEPs and share draft IEPs with parents for annual reviews.
• Meet with ESE curriculum supervisors monthly about curricula, related services and program delivery systems for students with disabilities.
• Explain Procedural Safeguards to parents and inform them about district resources to meet student needs.
• Facilitate IEP meetings using district-provided Facilitated IEP training to ensure productive sessions.
• Identify, report and correct IDEA compliance concerns; report issues to school-based leadership.
• Communicate with parents, colleagues and stakeholders to ensure IEPs are implemented with fidelity.
• Utilize the electronic management system to generate IEP documents.
• Comply with equal employment and non-discrimination policies of Broward County and participate in ongoing training.
