Job summary

Brown University Health seeks an Environmental Services worker to perform cleaning duties in The Miriam Hospital and related facilities. Tasks include buffing, stripping and refinishing floors, shampooing carpets, and daily cleaning to maintain sanitary conditions in patient areas and offices.

Responsibilities

• Assemble materials and supplies from supply rooms and transport to the work area.
• Prepare cleaning solutions, dust surfaces, empty wastebaskets, mop floors.
• Clean bathrooms, fixtures, showers, and patient rooms; change bed linens.
• Discharge cleaning of patient rooms and assist with emergency spills.
• Operate power cleaning equipment and assist in moving furniture as needed.
• Report repairs to supervisor and follow hospital procedures during emergencies.

The core Success Factors include:Instill Trust and Value DifferencesPatient and Community Focus and CollaborateRESPONSIBILITIES:Assembles materials and supplies from supply rooms, stock service carts, transports to assigned work area, performs daily cleaning and supplying of the area, as defined on the floor schedule in accordance with established departmental procedures, prescribed methods and standards. Returns unused supplies to supply room at the end of shift, cleans equipment used in performance of duties and stores it properly.Prepares cleaning solutions, dusts windowsills, blinds, furniture, and other items. Empties and cleans wastebaskets, dry mops floors, cleans and polishes metal and porcelain fixtures in bathrooms, offices, and patient rooms. Cleans showers and toilets, damp dusts or vacuums chairs and other items, makes beds with clean linens. Performs discharge cleaning of patient rooms, assists in the cleaning of observed emergency spills upon request. Vacuums rugs and carpets.Washes walls and ceilings, cleans lighting fixtures, tops of windows and doorframes. Hangs and changes bedside curtains and drapes, moves furniture to clean area, notifying supervisor when assistance is necessary. Transports trash and linen to designated areas, compacts trash following established hospital procedures, packs infectious waste, as needed.Maintains assigned equipment and work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition. Reports necessary repairs to equipment, furniture, building and fixtures to supervisor.Performs duties assigned in accordance with hospital procedures during fire, or internal/community disaster.Performs all heavy duty cleaning functions as required. Operates power equipment as needed. Transports furniture and equipment in accordance with department policies.Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Requires the ability to follow written and oral instructions in English.The level of education normally attained in courses at secondary school levels.Effective interpersonal communication skills.EXPERIENCE:One to three months to proficiently perform all basic duties.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Routinely work in healthcare setting such as acute care hospitals, physician office and/or ancillary healthcare enterprise.Any potential workplace hazards are minimized or nullified by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including the use of safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Physical ability to perform required tasks and ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Pay Range

$18.00-$25.82
