Job summary

Bechtel is seeking an Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) Specialist for a long-term assignment in Fairbanks Township, IN. The role focuses on implementing Bechtel’s ES&H program, maintaining safety and environmental controls, and ensuring regulatory compliance on a major power project.

You will work under the Field ES&H Lead, conducting risk assessments, data analyses, incident investigations, and reporting while supporting training and continuity of operations on site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2–5 years of relevant experience or 6–9 years of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing Bechtel's ES&H program and ES&H Management System, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Develop, implement, and maintain ES&H programs, systems, and procedures for employee safety and environmental protection.
• Maintain ES&H databases, including incident events, audit findings, and corrective actions.
• Perform statistical analysis of ES&H data to identify performance trends and root causes.
• Identify and coordinate ES&H software systems and electronic tools used by ES&H personnel.
• Lead teams in risk assessments, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring of ES&H issues.
• Prepare communications, write reports, and create documents for program execution and records retention.
• Assist with incident notifications, lead investigations, and prepare investigation reports.
• Recommend and implement improvements in processes to minimize hazards.
• Participate in and support training, emergency preparedness, and QA programs.

Project Overview

We are looking for top talent to join the expanding Bechtel Renewables & Clean Power business line to deliver the latest in our long-term portfolio of natural gas fired combined cycle power projects. This Project is composed of a 640MW natural gas fired combined cycle power plant located near Fairbanks Township, Sullivan County, Indiana, 90 miles southwest of Indianapolis is being developed by Advanced Power to supply reliable, power directly to the grid. The candidate will be located on a long-term assignment in Fairbanks Township, IN.

Job Summary

The Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) Specialist helps implement and ensure compliance with each component of an Environmental Safety and Health program with a specific area/location of the project. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing environmental, safety and health aspects of a project or facility. The position reports to the Field ES&H Lead.

Major Responsibilities

• Provides assistance in a wide variety of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) disciplines to facilitate implementation of Bechtel's ES&H program and ES&H Management System to include aiding compliance with Bechtel's ES&H standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments.
• Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities.
• Maintains ES&H databases, inclusive of incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions.
• Performs statistical analysis of ES&H data to help identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement.
• Helps identify and coordinate any unique software systems and electronic innovation used by ES&H personnel.
• Leads teams in conducting risk assessment, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring in response to ES&H issues.
• Prepares communications, writes reports, and prepares documents for program execution and records retention.
• Assists with incident notifications, leads investigations, and prepares incident investigation reports.
• Recommends and implements improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential.
• Participates in and supports employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.
• Supports ES&H recognition programs.
• Researches issues and provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
• Provides support to ES&H field and office personnel, inclusive of all ES&H disciplines.

Education And Experience Requirements

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
