The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in environmental safety compliance, particularly in construction settings. This position offers duties that contribute significantly to the safety and health of all employees.

Project Overview

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. The EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas will manage and integrate engineering and construction of the mine and processing facilities. The project is located in the high desert of north‑central Nevada, 25 miles from the Oregon border, near Winnemucca and Reno. Upon completion it will produce more lithium carbonate than any other U.S. facility, powering roughly one million electric vehicles per year.

Job Summary

Provide technical oversight of the project’s ES&H compliance activities through inspection of project field execution activities. Assist project and construction management in implementing and complying with project safety requirements, address ES&H issues during execution, work with other project‑level functions to address requirements, and conduct daily site surveillance to verify PPE usage, equipment inspections, and ES&H initiatives.

Major Responsibilities

• Coordinate ES&H disciplines to implement Bechtel's ES&H program and Management System, including compliance with standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments.
• Deliver toolbox talks and participate in site meetings with project team members, contractors and subcontractors to advise them of safety requirements.
• Assist in development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures for employee safety, health, and environmental protection.
• Maintain ES&H databases, including incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions.
• Perform statistical analysis of ES&H data to identify performance trends and contributing factors; provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Prepare communications, reports, and documents for program execution and records retention.
• Coordinate incident notifications, lead investigations, and prepare incident investigation reports.
• Participate in, and may lead, employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.
• Coordinate ES&H recognition programs.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience, or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of OSHA 1926 and 1910.
• Understanding of Bechtel's ESH core processes (preferred).
• Root cause analysis skills for incident investigations.
• Conduct Project Contractor Orientation Leads and implement Project ESH Audits, monitoring corrective actions.
• Coaching contractors and safety teams on Bechtel processes and expectations.
• Knowledge of national safety laws, regulations, and agency requirements.
• Experience in ES&H assessments and inspections during construction.
• Experience managing or providing technical oversight of ES&H subcontractors or consultants.
