ES Counselor
Pleasant Hope Schools is seeking applicants for the position of Elementary School (PK-4) Counselor. This 10‑month position is for the 2026-27 school year. The Counselor will provide and implement a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for students, support teachers, staff, and parents, and manage crisis situations. The role also includes character‑building education among the student body.
Location: Pleasant Hope, Missouri. Salary: $40,000 per year plus a 20‑day counselor stipend (10 days before and 10 days after the school year).
Qualifications
- Master's degree in education.
- Guidance counselor certification.
- Minimum of three years as a classroom teacher (preferred).
Reporting Relationships
Reports to: Building Principal.
Position Responsibilities
- Implement the District's philosophy, goals, and objectives.
- Ensure safety and protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy.
- Assist administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct.
- Make provisions for availability to students and parents outside instructional time when required.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as needed.
- Promote a positive school‑community relationship.
- Report incidents of suspected child abuse and neglect.
- Create a positive environment that supports student self‑esteem.
- Follow all Board of Education and Administration rules and policies.
- Assist in maintaining student records and protecting confidentiality.
- Help students develop a positive self‑concept.
- Work with students individually to solve personal problems related to home/family, health, and emotional adjustment.
- Request records for new students and orient them to school procedures and learning opportunities.
- Resolve students' educational handicaps.
- Provide student information to colleges and employers per Board policy.
- Discover and develop special abilities of students.
- Help students evaluate career interests and choices.
- Interpret the guidance program to the community.
- Provide in‑service training in counseling for teachers and student teachers.
- Coordinate testing and interpret results.
- Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain sufficient health to perform essential functions.
- Perform all other duties assigned by Administrator.
Job Requirements
Position Type: Full‑Time. Employment: Teacher contract days plus 20 additional days. FLSA Status: Exempt.
