Overview
Electrical Reliability Services (ERS) is looking for Electrical Building Commissioning Engineers to join our Commissioning Group nationally. This role supports growth of the Commissioning Group, with opportunities for both Mechanical and Electrical Building Commissioning Engineers.
Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of commissioning of electrical power distribution systems.
- Experience with generators, uninterruptible power systems, static switches, power distribution units, automatic transfer switches, switchgear with PLC/microprocessor control is preferred.
- Understand contract documents (drawings and specifications) and Sequence of Operation.
- Develop pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems commissioning scripts.
- Track and report commissioning issues throughout the project; develop and assemble final commissioning reports.
- Operate safely in a construction atmosphere performing commissioning operations.
- Play an important role in each commissioning project and perform as lead on small or moderately sized commissions.
- Be responsible for commissioning communications and updates; insure project schedules are met.
- Maintain strong client relationships and provide some project management as needed.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of ASHRAE commissioning industry standards and a Commissioning certification is preferred.
- Knowledge of LEED process for New Construction and Existing Buildings and LEED Accredited Professional is preferred.
- Knowledge of building electrical systems including normal and emergency power distribution, critical power systems, generators, UPSs and batteries, monitoring and alarm systems, automatic transfer switches, static switches, power distribution units, metering, motor control centers, and interlocks.
- Experience with operation and maintenance of switchgear through 600V; through 15kV preferred.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and standards such as OSHA and NFPA.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and perform work for mid to large projects and programs; complete projects on time and within budget.
- Strong client relationship skills and ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with clients and peers.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel, standards research, and operation of test equipment).
- Willing to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and night work; able to travel out-of-town up to several weeks at a time. International travel may be required.
- Regular physical requirements include standing, walking, using hands, reaching, and vision; capable of lifting up to 25 pounds; valid driver's license with clean driving record.
Education and Certifications
- Graduate Bachelor Engineer (BSEE or BSME) or equivalent Commissioning Technical Training with two years of related experience and at least five commissioning projects including Design, Construction, and Acceptance phases.
- Alternative pathways include high school education with five years of related experience and at least eight commissioning projects.
Physical Requirements
- Heavy lifting (over 50 lbs) and frequent standing.
Environmental Demands
- Extreme cold and heat, moderate to high noise levels, and work around moving machinery.
- Work outdoors with limited protection from weather.
