Job description

Position Description

The Erle Lab is now recruiting for a Junior Specialist. The junior specialist will perform experiments designed to help understand fundamental mechanisms underlying asthma. Changes in airway epithelial cells and airway mucus are important contributors to asthma. In severe asthma, mucus plugs obstruct the airway and we are conducting studies to understand the causes of mucus plugging. The laboratory uses primary cultures of human airway epithelial cells and tests the roles of specific genes using CRISPR-based and other approaches. Position duties include: 1) designing, conducting, and interpreting experiments under the supervision of the PI; 2) helping to maintain lab supplies and equipment; and 3) working with other members of the PI's lab and collaborating labs to support related projects. Methods employed include human primary cell culture, lentiviral and other CRISPR systems, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, videomicroscopy, and immunoblotting.

Required Qualifications
  • Must have (or be in the process of obtaining) a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in a research laboratory involving two or more of the following methods: mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, molecular biology (PCR, plasmid preparation), tissue staining/microscopy.
  • Computational experience (e.g., experience with using Python or R).

Applicants must meet the required qualifications by time of hire.

Please apply here. Applicants’ materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.
