Job summary

Small Animal Emergency Services in North Carolina seeks a dedicated veterinary technician to join our emergency team. You will handle restraint, triage, lab work, imaging, nursing care, and anesthesia support for varied cases. Strong client communication and meticulous medical records are essential.

Qualifications

  • We’re looking for a veterinary technician with at least 2+ years of experience.
  • Registered veterinary technician preferred but not required.
  • ER experience is highly preferred but not required for more experienced applicants.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays due to emergency medicine.
  • Punctuality and reliability in scheduled shifts.
  • Experience with anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
  • Excellent client communication and medical records management.
  • Knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
  • Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques.
  • Proficiency with sample collection methods (blood, urine, fecal, skin).
  • Experience with radiographic positioning and image capture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform animal restraint and triage incoming patients.
  • Collect and analyze lab samples; assist with diagnostic imaging.
  • Provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases; administer medications.
  • Communicate treatment plans effectively with clients.
  • Assist in surgical preparation and anesthesia management.

Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

We’re looking for:

  • A veterinary technician with a minimum of 2+ year experience required.

  • Due to the nature of Emergency Medicine, this position requires the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts.
  • Experience and familiarity with anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
  • Excellent client communication and medical record management skills.
  • Knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
  • Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques.
  • Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens
  • Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture.
  • Compassionate and calm team-player.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $18 - $24/hr. depending on experience level and licensure
