PetVet Care Centers' Bluegrass Veterinary Specialists + Animal Emergency in Lexington, KY, is seeking an ER Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with daily tasks, equipment prep, and patient care. The role includes handling restraint, admin duties, and client communication in a fast-paced ER setting.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of ER experience required.
• Applicants must be 18 years or older to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients.
• Greet patients and owners, show to an examining room, and record vitals upon arrival.
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medications as directed by LVTs.
• Calm and soothe anxious patients.
• Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint.
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs.
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, pumps, scales, monitors, etc.).
• Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, and maintain documentation of controlled drugs.
• Feed patients as prescribed and record appetites; report any unusual conditions.
• Communicate with clients and ensure they feel comfortable leaving their pet(s).
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medical plans.
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and safe chemical use; complete laundry.
• Bath and groom overnight patients; ensure animals are clean before release.
• Adhere to safety and wellness regulations; follow written and oral directions.
• Maintain accurate medical records and show up for every shift.
• Promote hospital products/services and support the organization.
• Respond with urgency to directions from DVM or LVTs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.
