Job summary

The University of Southern California Verdugo Hills Hospital in Los Angeles is seeking a Unit Secretary/Monitor Technician to perform clerical duties on the nursing unit and monitor patients for arrhythmias.

You will provide courteous reception, coordinate patient-care activities, and must have a high school diploma, completion of an EKG course, and BCLS certification; English communication and data-entry skills are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Completion of an EKG or Rhythm interpretation course.
• Minimum of one (1) year current experience as a Unit Secretary and Monitor Tech in an acute care preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Data entry computer skills.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• AB 508 Certification (if no card upon hire, obtain within 30 days).
• EKG course required and rhythm recognition exam must be passed.

Responsibilities

• The Unit Secretary/Monitor Technician performs clerical and communication functions on the assigned nursing unit and monitors patients for arrhythmias, alerting appropriate personnel as needed.
• Provides courteous reception on the nursing unit and coordinates activities for patient care.
