Job summary

Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Inc. is seeking an ER Tech to join our team and provide bedside patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

You will perform splinting, phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, point-of-care testing after training, document accurately, and help maintain a safe, compassionate environment for patients and families.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• 6 months - 1 year related experience is preferred.
• BLS Certification within 30 days of hire is required.
• Unit specific competencies obtained within six months of hire or transfer date is required.

Responsibilities

• Provides designated patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Performs splinting, phlebotomy, 12 lead EKGs, FSBS testing, and PO testing after training.
• Records intake, output, and ADLs in the computer and maintains a safe environment for patients.
• Communicates observations to the licensed nurse to assist in care planning.

Summary/Objective

The ER Tech provides a variety of patient care activities and accommodative services for assigned patients. Performs patient care activities within limits of position--does NOT administer any medication or therapy; does NOT assume independent responsibility for any patient.

• Provides designated and specified patient care to assigned patients under the direct supervision, consultation and notification of a licensed nurse in accordance with physicians' orders and in conformance with approved patient care standards based on previously acquired nursing skills. Performs splinting, phlebotomy, 12 lead EKGs, FSBS testing, POC testing after completion of necessary training.
• Records graphics, intake and output, and ADL's in the computer and flow sheet accurately and implement measures to promote a safe environment for patients and others.
• Knowledgeable of the usual and stable baseline conditions (both physical and mental) of the specific patient population in which they are employed.
• Institute appropriate nursing interventions that might be required to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications. Reports objective relevant observations to the licensed nurse to assist in care-planning.
• Communicates and interacts effectively with patients and their families based on sensitivity to the psychosocial needs of patients.
• Utilizes equipment in the provision of patient care services safely and effectively with adaptation of equipment usage to the age and general condition of the patient, as indicated. Assists in the cleaning and sanitation of all equipment and supplies used in the unit and adheres to all guidelines regarding use of cleaning products. Follows appropriate guidelines for setting up sterile field and instruments for designated procedures

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent

6 months - 1 year related experience

Required License/Certifications
