Job summary

Clara Barton Medical Center in Hoisington, KS is seeking an Emergency Room RN to provide general nursing care to patients and contribute to the total patient care program.

You will admit patients to the ED, assess needs, identify nursing problems, monitor vitals, support treatments, and educate patients and families during the ER stay and at discharge.

Qualifications

• Must be a licensed RN in good standing.
• Experience in Emergency Department or acute care preferred.
• Ability to provide total patient care and coordinate with providers.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide total patient care according to established standards, policies and procedures.
• Admit patients to the Emergency Department, assess needs, identify nursing problems and establish priorities of care needed to return the patient to optimal health.
• Make initial patient contact, observe the patient's condition and vital signs, assess and record observations in the patient’s chart and relay those findings to the covering provider.
• Assist providers with treatments and procedures during the patient stay.
• Prepare patients for examination, obtain equipment needed for treatment, carry out ordered treatments, document treatments and outcomes and instruct the patient on follow up care/appointments.
• Transcribe and review physician orders and assure that necessary arrangements are made with other patient care departments, as ordered.
• Prepare, administer and record medications, IV solutions and establish IV access.
• Provide patient and family instruction and education regarding the patient’s care throughout the ER stay and upon discharge.
• Attend and participate in in-service education programs and other educational meetings as well as unit meetings.
• May perform additional duties, as requested or required.
