Job summary

THOM Thomas Hospitals in South Charleston, WV, seeks a nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care teammate to assist in an Emergency setting under supervision of a registered nurse or licensed provider.

Responsibilities include observing patient conditions, assisting with admissions and transfers, recording vitals, specimen collection, and maintaining a safe environment. BLS within 30 days is required; EMT/Paramedic licensure and ACLS/PALS are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire date.
• Two years of college in nursing/biology/related field OR two years’ ED or pre-hospital experience.
• Current WV EMT/Paramedic licensure or applicable state licensure preferred.
• ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observes and reports patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
• Assists RN with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
• Records vital signs and assists in personal hygiene and patient comfort.
• Assists in specimen collection and other patient care activities.
• Maintains a clean, safe environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
• Reports equipment repairs to appropriate personnel promptly.
• Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures.
• Communicates nutrition issues to RN as needed.
• Performs tests such as glucose monitoring, urine and stool testing.
• Performs routine discontinuation of IV catheters as assigned.
• Assists with drainage devices management and output documentation.
• Ability to perform EKG testing upon request.
• Transport of specimens to Lab as needed.
• Collects blood samples if phlebotomy credentialed.
