Job summary

Duke Emergency Medicine is seeking Critical Care Advanced Practice Providers to join our Observation Unit at Duke University Hospital, a premier tertiary referral center and Level I Trauma Center serving North Carolina and surrounding regions.

Our ED supports high-acuity patients with advanced imaging, CT, ultrasound, and a 24-bed CEU focused on efficient observation and patient flow.

Qualifications

• Must complete an accredited NP program with a Master's in Nursing.
• Critical Care/Acute Care NP Master's or post-Master's ACNP/CCNP strongly preferred.
• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master's preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical services for critically ill patients in the Clinical Evaluation Unit.
• Perform histories and physical exams on observation patients.
• Develop, initiate, and manage treatment plans for a broad range of acute and subacute conditions.
• Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic studies including labs, imaging, and EKGs.
• Monitor and reassess patient status to ensure stability and progress toward discharge goals.
• Coordinate dispositions and transitions of care; communicate with patients and families.
• Document encounters and updates in the EMR; complete admission and discharge notes.

Education

Master's degree in Nursing

Acute Care NP/ACNP/CCNP preferred
