Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to support patient care in a high-acuity environment. The role requires an EMT license, BLS, and capable handling vital signs, ECGs, IVs, wound care, and phlebotomy under RN/Physician supervision.

Shifts run 3pm–3am with every third weekend rotation; you’ll collaborate with ED clinicians to monitor, assess, and respond to patient needs while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Current EMT P license without restrictions or EMT B within at least one (1) year relative experience in a similar capacity; including, but not limited to: Military experience, private ambulance company, fire department or healthcare setting
• High School graduate or equivalent
• CERT Basic Life Support (BLS)

Responsibilities

• Functions under the direction of the Emergency Nurse (RN) and Physician.
• Collects pertinent data within their certification scope and reports these findings to the RN and Physicians.
• Prioritizes patient care activities based on patient needs and unit activity under the direction of the Clinical Shift Coordinator and/or Relief Charge Nurse.
• Administers treatments and various procedures (within their scope of practice) to patients as ordered by the physician and directed by the Professional Nursing Staff including but not limited to: vital signs, cardiac monitoring, ECG, oxygen administration, IVs, wound care, phlebotomy, and code support.
• Assists with OB/GYN care; Assists physician with exam; Obtain visual acuity and eye care including irrigation and patch application; Orthopedic care and immobilizers; Assist in code situations.
• Phlebotomy; Start and discontinue IVs; Managing intravenous maintenance fluids; Identifies changes in patient condition and notifies RN/physician.
