Job summary

WVU Medicine in Bridgeport, WV is seeking a hospital role supporting licensed staff in an Emergency setting. You will perform nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care under supervision, assist with admissions and examinations, record vitals, and help maintain a safe environment.

Candidates need a high school diploma, BLS within 30 days, and ideally EMT/Paramedic licensure. This role includes 36 hours weekly, non-exempt shift, and opportunities to contribute to a busy clinical team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire date preferred.

Responsibilities

• Observes and reports patient concerns to RN.
• Assists RN with admission, transfer, discharge and patient care duties.
• Records vital signs and monitors intake/output.
• Assists in specimen collection and infection control.
• Maintains a clean environment to prevent infections and ensure safety.
• Reports equipment repairs to appropriate personnel.
• Prepares patients for examinations and procedures.
• Communicates nutrition-related issues to RN.
• Supports department operations and administrative tasks.
• Answers patient call bells and relays messages.
• Performs glucose testing, urine/stool testing, and maintains QC logs.
• Discontinues IV catheters as assigned.
• Assists with drainage devices and related care.
• May perform EKG testing on request.
• Transports specimens to Lab as needed.
• Collects blood samples if phlebotomy credentialed.
