Description
Overall Summary:
The Equipment Technician sets up, maintains, adjusts, and troubleshoots lettershop production equipment. They ensure that deadlines, quality, and quantity goals are met.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform difficult repairs, set-ups, and rebuilds on multiple pieces of machinery. Fabricate parts for repairs and upgrades.
- Participate in ARC Flash Electrical Safety Program.
- Follow all safety procedures, including Lock out/Tag out.
- Address unsafe conditions promptly; act immediately to mitigate danger and escalate issues when necessary.
- Complete assigned projects with minimal oversight.
- Display advanced expertise on at least 3 processes or moderate expertise on 4 or more processes.
- Assist with the installation of new equipment and the movement of existing equipment.
- Maintain and work on various equipment to support production; may work on special equipment.
- Identify and communicate issues effectively; gather and analyze data; resolve complex issues independently.
- Develop alternative solutions to meet business needs; proactively address work area needs and priorities.
- Perform modifications and rebuilds on existing equipment as necessary.
- Collaborate with outside vendors or SMEs to resolve issues related to defects.
- Serve as a 'go-to' resource outside of the department.
- Train, coach, and mentor other team members, including Equipment Technician I and II, and Mechanics when needed.
- Promote open communication within the team and across departments.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- Ability to read and write English; understand oral and written communication.
- Strong mechanical aptitude; quick learner of machine operations.
- Electrical aptitude and advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency with tools and techniques for equipment repair.
- Effective in group problem-solving situations.
- Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Basic math skills and measurement reading ability.
- Computer proficiency.
- Strong attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED preferred, or equivalent experience; trade school is a plus; 1-2 years.
- 10+ years' experience in electronic and mechanical troubleshooting on automated manufacturing equipment.
- 2-4 years' experience as an Equipment Technician.
- Experience with print or direct mail equipment preferred.
- Lean manufacturing and/or quality control training preferred.
- Participation in safety programs or training is a plus.
- Experience with MSDs, Kearns, and BlueCrest Epic Inserters is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, rotating 3-4 days per week, including weekends.
- Overtime as needed.
- Work in a climate-controlled environment with exposure to loud noise (PPE provided).
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, twist, crouch, squat, kneel, and stoop for up to 12 hours.
- Fine motor skills, pushing/pulling, grasping, pinching, reaching.
- Pre-employment assessment required.
Salary:
The hourly rate range is $24-37/hr. Compensation is based on qualifications, experience, role scope, and location.
