Job description

Role Overview

U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated facility management service company, seeks a proven Equipment Repair Technician to work on one of our projects in Southeast Virginia (Chesapeake, VA). The technician will diagnose, repair, inspect, and maintain motorized and mechanical construction, highway maintenance, grounds, and automotive equipment of all types and in varied locations on a routine basis.

Responsibilities

Diagnose vehicle and equipment failures using electronic testing equipment and service manuals; perform repairs and overhauls to engines, transmissions, electrical systems, HVAC, hydraulics, pneumatic components, and air brakes; recommend outsourcing for major repairs.
Conduct safety inspections under Virginia State Police guidelines.
Execute preventative maintenance according to schedules and recommend outsourcing when needed.
Design, fabricate, modify, and weld components to repair or replace parts.
Prepare equipment for emergency operations and perform roadside repairs to reduce downtime.
Maintain maintenance and repair documentation, generate and close work orders, record time and leave entries, reorder parts, and complete warranty paperwork.

Additional Duties

Backup Fuel Site Manager: Receive fuel deliveries, perform monthly inspections, and maintain client‑approved documentation; maintain AFMP Class C Underground Storage Tank Operator and Fire Extinguisher certification.
Perform any other duties as assigned by a supervisor or USF Senior Project Manager.

Essential Emergency Operations

The client is an emergency operations agency. This position is essential to emergency response operations and is expected to work during emergencies such as inclement weather, disaster response, and other critical situations.

Qualifications

Education

High School diploma or GED required.
Vocational or technical training in automotive and equipment repair and diagnostics preferred; equivalent experience may substitute.

Experience and Certifications

Minimum Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and DOT medical card required; ability to obtain within 11 months of hire is preferred.
Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling certification preferred; ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
Virginia State Police Equipment Inspection License preferred; ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
AFMP Class C Underground Storage Tank Operator and Fire Extinguisher Certification preferred; ability to obtain within 11 months of hire.
ASE certifications or equivalent highly preferred.
Flexible schedule (24/7/365 operating environment) required.

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of general shop procedures.
Knowledge of diagnosis, repair and maintenance for automotive, construction, and maintenance equipment.
Ability to operate light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks, equipment and tools safely.
Knowledge of cutting, welding and fabrication operations; skilled in using cutting and welding equipment.
Ability to perform major repairs and maintenance on diesel and gasoline trucks and equipment independently.
Proficient reading of service and repair manuals, gauges, and testing devices.
Accurate record‑keeping and reporting.
Heavy manual labor capability.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Problem‑solving, independent work, and task completion under time constraints.
Computer, shop‑operations, hand tool, and advanced diagnostic equipment skills.
Compliance with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
