Job summary

Sidney Police Department is seeking an Equipment Operator (Water Metering/ Water Distribution) to support the Water Meter Department and may assist Water Distribution as needed. The role requires responding to urgent water-related issues and maintaining compliance with licensing and residency requirements.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, a valid CDL Class B with tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain it within 12 months, and relevant utility or construction

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Valid CDL Class B with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in underground utilities or related field.
• Possession or ability to possess Ohio EPA Class I Distribution license within 18 months of hire.
• Residency as required by the City.

Responsibilities

• Perform water meter related duties in the Water Meter Department.
• Be prepared to assist the Water Distribution crew as needed based on staffing and projects.
• Respond to emergency repairs outside normal working hours and provide reliable service.

Equipment Operator (Water Metering/ Water Distribution)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Equipment Operator is primarily assigned to the Water Meter Department, a division of the Water Distribution Department, under normal operating conditions. The position will spend the majority of its work time performing water meter related duties. The position may be reassigned from scheduled meter work to assist with the Water Distribution crew based on staffing needs, special projects, emergency response, or any other operational requirements.

As a public employee, this position is responsible for providing reliable delivery of utility services. This position requires consistent and prompt response to emergency repairs that occur outside of normal working hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid class B CDL with tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in the Underground Utilities or other closely related experience (construction, plumbing, HVAC, electrical or similar) is desirable.
• Possession or the ability to possess an Ohio EPA Class I Distribution license within 18 months of hire.
• Maintain residency as required by the City.

OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

• Extensive knowledge of water distribution, sanitary collection systems, and storm sewer collection systems.
