Job summary

Hallett Materials, a CRH company, is seeking a Loader/Scale House Attendant to maintain aggregate piles, load trucks, and handle ticketing and cash sales. The role requires adherence to safety policies, daily equipment checks, and accurate data entry for sales records.

The materials produced by Hallett Materials are used in the construction of new highways, bridges and buildings as well as landscaping and maintenance projects.

Position Overview

The Loader/Scale House Attendant is responsible for filling and maintaining aggregate piles, stacking products, loading and unloading product following established policies and procedures. This position will also be responsible for ticketing trucks, accepting payment for cash sales and customer service duties.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights, safely and efficiently.
  • Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Accurately load customer trucks with the proper materials at the appropriate weight for truck size. Utilize computerized dispatch system to weigh trucks and evaluate sales orders.
  • Help perform daily safety checks of all equipment and site operations. Perform daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor.
  • Perform data entry tasks and generate sales tickets with speed and accuracy, communicating with management to accurately report daily sales data.
  • Process all credit card and cash transactions for COD customers.
  • Accurately maintain petty cash at the assigned location including making correct change, keeping an accurate balance and record of transactions and reconciling daily.
  • Maintains daily housekeeping duties for scale house and scale including keeping scale clean and performing maintenance.
  • Report any problems to the Foreperson, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • Prior experience in the aggregates production industry preferred.
Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must maintain valid driver's license that meets state requirements.
  • Regular, on-time and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
  • Must be able to travel as required.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Knowledge in operating heavy equipment and able to operate equipment in a safe efficient manner under a variety of working conditions.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations and construction sites.
  • Maintain a knowledge of aggregate sizes, classifications, weight requirements for loads and other required information to successfully execute proper scaling.
  • Must be able to utilize internet, communicate effectively and be proficient in Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word and Outlook, and database software
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical skills such as addition, subtraction and multiplication.
  • Able to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions from supervisors to complete assigned tasks.
  • Must display a willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.
  • Ability to provide great customer service and display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to communicate with others by telephone, electronically and in person.
  • Able to utilize office equipment including a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
  • May require sitting for extended periods of time.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment) is required, and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions. While performing non-field duties in this position, the environment is typical of an office setting and the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
