Job summary

Florida Department of Transportation – Tampa Operations Center is seeking an Equipment Operator to maintain the state roadway system. Responsibilities include minor maintenance, operating a range of equipment, and supporting bridge and roadway work.

The successful candidate must have at least one year of experience with small/medium equipment, a Class E license at hire, and progress toward a CDL Class B with air brakes within 10 months.

Qualifications

• Requires one year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
• A Class E driver's license is required at time of hire.
• CDL Class B License Instructional Permit is required within 60 days of appointment and CDL with air brakes within 10 months.

Responsibilities

• Performs minor maintenance and servicing on equipment; checks fluids and brakes.
• Operates vehicles and various equipment after obtaining required CDL permit.
• Performs tree trimming, carpentry, masonry, painting and maintenance of highway signs.
• Performs Temporary Traffic Control and assists with crew activity reports.
• Oversees crews performing maintenance activities.
