Job summary

Sarasota County is seeking an Equipment Operator to run heavy equipment and support road, bridge, and sidewalk maintenance. You will operate dozers, graders, backhoes and transport vehicles while assisting with concrete structures and asphalt repairs.

The role requires a high school diploma, two years in road/rights-of-way work and a Florida CDL Class A with Tanker N endorsement at hire. On-site work with comprehensive county benefits is provided.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in construction/maintenance of roadways and rights-of-way.
  • Florida CDL Class A with Tanker N endorsement at hire.
  • Valid Florida driver's license at hire.
  • Experience operating concrete/asphalt/bridge maintenance equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment (dozers, loaders, graders, backhoes, trucks) and assist with concrete structures (sidewalks, curbs, gutters, ADA ramps).
  • Support concrete work by building forms and using power tools for prep and finishing.
  • Assist with asphalt maintenance and road repairs per DOT standards.
  • Perform traffic control duties including MOT and flagging for safe work zones.
  • Maintain roadways and right-of-way: debris removal, tree trimming, shoulder repairs, grading unpaved roads.
