Job summary

The Middlesex Corporation in Massachusetts is seeking an Equipment Operator to support daily operations at our ready mix concrete plant. This role safely operates loaders and other plant equipment to move and manage aggregates and materials.

The ideal candidate has 2–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in concrete or construction environments, with a strong mechanical aptitude and commitment to safety. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
  • Experience operating a front-end loader strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a ready mix concrete plant, aggregate facility, asphalt plant, quarry, heavy civil construction operation, or similar industrial environment preferred.

Position Summary:

Mass. Ready Mix is seeking an Equipment Operator to support daily operations at our ready mix concrete plant. This position is responsible for safely operating loaders and other plant equipment used to move, stockpile, load, and manage aggregates and materials throughout the facility.

The Equipment Operator will also support overall plant operations by performing equipment inspections, routine maintenance, housekeeping, material management, and assisting with the ready mix batch plant as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy equipment in a concrete, aggregate, construction, or similar industrial environment and possess a strong mechanical aptitude.

Responsibilities:

  • Comply with and actively promote all Safety policies and procedures, including reporting all accidents, incidents, and near misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value: Safety, first in everything we do.
  • Safely operate front-end loaders and other assigned mobile equipment throughout the ready mix plant and yard.
  • Load, move, stockpile, and manage aggregates and other materials used in concrete production.
  • Feed aggregate bins and maintain adequate material levels to support continuous plant production.
  • Maintain organized stockpiles and help prevent contamination or improper mixing of aggregate materials.
  • Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of assigned equipment and complete required equipment condition reports and daily checklists.
  • Monitor equipment for mechanical issues, unusual noises, leaks, excessive wear, or other conditions that could affect safe operation.
  • Report equipment deficiencies and coordinate with supervisors and mechanics regarding needed maintenance or repairs.
  • Perform routine equipment care, including cleaning, greasing, lubrication, fluid checks, and other basic preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain clean equipment cabs and ensure assigned equipment is properly maintained and ready for operation.
  • Support daily ready mix plant operations and assist the Plant Operator with production activities as needed.
  • Assist with monitoring aggregate, cementitious material, admixture, fuel, and other plant inventory levels.
  • Communicate with the Plant Operator, Dispatch, drivers, Quality Control, mechanics, and supervisors regarding material needs, production requirements, equipment concerns, and operational issues.
  • Assist with plant startup, shutdown, cleaning, and general maintenance activities as directed.
  • Assist with inspection and basic troubleshooting of plant equipment, including conveyors, bins, hoppers, gates, belts, scales, and other material-handling components.
  • Keep the plant, yard, material storage areas, and equipment clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Assist with washout, material cleanup, spill prevention, dust control, and other housekeeping activities throughout the facility.
  • Follow established procedures when working around conveyors, moving equipment, elevated areas, and other plant machinery.
  • Follow all applicable environmental requirements, company policies, and operating procedures.
  • Assist with snow removal, yard maintenance, and other seasonal plant activities as needed.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inspection, maintenance, and operational records as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and efficient plant operations.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
  • Experience operating a front-end loader strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a ready mix concrete plant, aggregate facility, asphalt plant, quarry, heavy civil construction operation, or similar industrial environment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of aggregate materials and material handling preferred.
  • Ready mix concrete production or batch plant experience is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to recognize and report equipment or plant maintenance issues.
  • Experience performing equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment around employees, trucks, stockpiles, material bins, conveyors, and other plant equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to complete electronic or written equipment and production documentation.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.

  • Ability to work early mornings, extended hours, overtime, and weekends as production demands require
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
  • Ability to work in an active ready mix production facility with frequent exposure to moving equipment, dust, noise, vibration, wet conditions, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment and frequently enter and exit equipment throughout the workday.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach as required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely access elevated platforms and plant equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and reinforced toe footwear.
