Job summary

GCC is seeking a quarry operator in Rapid City, SD. The role involves operating a large loader and being prepared to operate other quarry equipment as needed, under supervision. Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday.

You will maintain safety, perform inspections, and support plant policies while ensuring high-quality work and participating in continuous improvement initiatives. Training on multiple quarry machines will be provided.

Qualifications

• Two years at plant, preferably in Quarry Department.
• One year experience operating heavy equipment.
• Solid background and knowledge of rock, gypsum formations and quarry operations.
• Training in explosive safety.

Responsibilities

• Operate large loader.
• Relief operator when other quarry employees are off work.
• Will be trained on all quarry equipment including Crusher operations.
• Maintain a safe working environment and follow safety policies.
• Perform daily housekeeping and plant inspections.
• Adhere to lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and emergency plans.
• Troubleshoot and analyze root cause failure.
• Work as directed by plant supervision to meet needs.

Job description

What you will do:

Under supervision of quarry supervisor the operator will operate the large loader and be trained and available to operate other quarry equipment, as needed. Work Schedule Tuesday through Saturday

• Operate large loader.


• Relief operator when other quarry employees are off work, if needed.


• Will be trained on all quarry equipment including Equipment Operator-Crusher and Asst. Equipment Operator-Crusher.


• Will maintain a safe working environment, adhere to safety policies and practices, perform daily housekeeping of assigned area, perform daily workplace inspections, adhere to plant policies and proper use of plant radios.


• Be familiar with MSHA safety rules, safety procedures for plant mobile equipment, lockout/tagout policy, confined space permit policy, hot work policy, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection, proper containment and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents and other environmentally sensitive materials.


• Ensure quality of work performed, participate in continuous improvement system, observe and promote best practices, good time management and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure.


• Will work where and when needed as directed by plant supervisory personnel to meet plant needs.

Experience and abilities you will need:

• Two years at plant, preferably in Quarry Department. Will accept related experience in similar operations.


• One year experience operating heavy equipment.


• Solid background and knowledge of rock, gypsum formations and quarry operations.


• Training in explosive safety.


• Ability to perform operational and preventive maintenance on equipment.


• Good safety record.


• Good physical condition as position may require bending, kneeling, walking, standing, climbing, stairs and lifting; high degree of manual dexterity and coordination and good eye/hand coordination.
