Job summary

The Town of Davie is seeking a skilled equipment operator to perform maintenance and repair on roadways, parks, and town sites. Under supervision, you will operate one or more less complex motorized heavy equipment and support construction projects.

Requirements include a high school diploma, at least one year of relevant experience, and a valid Class A or B CDL without L restriction. Experience supervising labor crews is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • One year experience in operation and maintenance of assigned equipment, or handling of multi-speed trucks and related heavy equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without L restriction issued by the State of Florida.

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.

  • One (1) year experience in at least one (1) or more of the following;


    • Operation and maintenance of assigned equipment,

    • Handling of multi-speed trucks and some heavy construction equipment;


  • Possession of a valid Class "A" or "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without “L” restriction issued by the State of Florida.


Preferred


  • Experience in supervision of labor crews.


Essential Functions


  • Performs a variety of maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, grading roads and other sites, trimming and removing brush and debris from roadside, mowing, planting trees, erecting road signs, hanging informational banners, removing and installing new concrete sidewalks and multipurpose trails.

  • Operates one (1) or more less complex units of motorized light or heavy equipment involved in the construction and maintenance of roadways, parks, bicycle paths, and other Town-owned sites including, but not limited to, front-end loaders, power lawn mowers, street sweeper-rollers, backhoes, heavy dump trucks, side mowers, water trucks, graders skid-steers, grapple trucks, bucket truck, soil compactors, and vacuum trucks.

  • If assigned to the Parks and Recreation Department, may prepare athletic fields and other facilities for use by participants.

  • Performs minor maintenance and related care of equipment used.

  • Transports materials and supplies to various work sites.

  • Attends courses, conferences, and seminars to maintain current knowledge of trends in heavy equipment operation.

  • Performs other related work as required.
