Job summary

Sunland Asphalt is hiring a skilled Asphalt Paver Operator in Phoenix, AZ. You will operate asphalt paving equipment to lay materials according to project specs, monitor feed and grade, and help ensure a safe, efficient jobsite.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or GED (preferred), 6 months to 1 year of related experience, and willingness to travel to project sites. We offer competitive pay, benefits, and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Willingness to travel to any jobsite (including staying away from home).
• FMCSA English proficiency requirements apply to CDL drivers; must pass English proficiency assessment.

Responsibilities

• Operate asphalt paving equipment safely and efficiently to place asphalt materials according to project specs.
• Control paving machine speed, depth, and alignment to achieve proper thickness and grade.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report issues.
• Monitor material flow and adjust controls for consistent quality and smooth surface.
• Follow safety policies and OSHA regulations on-site.
• Maintain awareness of personnel, equipment, and traffic for a safe work environment.
• Assist with setup, breakdown, and cleanup of paving operations.
• Communicate quality concerns or site conditions that may affect operations.
• Travel to various project sites as required by construction schedules.
• Complete daily equipment inspection reports and required documentation.

POSITION PURPOSE:

Operators perform a variety of physical tasks to include operating the roller and other heavy equipment and machinery for applying asphalt products as defined by each job/project.

Essential Duties:

• Operate asphalt paving equipment safely and efficiently to place asphalt materials according to project specifications.
• Control paving machine speed, depth, and alignment to achieve proper asphalt thickness and grade requirements.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of paving equipment and report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs.
• Monitor material flow and adjust machine controls to ensure consistent paving quality and smooth surface appearance.
• Observe and comply with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and jobsite safety requirements.
• Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, and traffic to ensure a safe work environment.
• Assist with setup, breakdown, and cleanup of paving operations as needed.
• Identify and communicate quality concerns, material inconsistencies, or site conditions that may impact paving operations.
• Respond to changing jobsite conditions and make equipment adjustments to maintain production standards.
• Accurately complete daily equipment inspection reports and other required documentation.
• Work extended hours, weekends, and travel to various project sites as required by construction schedules.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors or project management.

Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
• Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience is preferred.
• Ability to speak read and write English is preferred.
• Must be willing to travel to any and all jobsite without exception (including staying away from home if necessary.)
• DRIVERS: Must meet FMCSA English proficiency requirements under 49 CFR §391.11(b)(2), including the ability to read and speak English, understand highway signs, respond to official inquiries, and make required entries on reports and records. To ensure Sunland Asphalt complies with this federal mandate, all 10K-CMV and CDL drivers will be required to complete and pass an English proficiency assessment.
