City of Winston-Salem is seeking a motivated equipment operator to perform routine work under supervision. You will operate tandem dump trucks, light trucks, and snow/ice removal equipment, and may perform minor repairs on machinery.
Requirements include completion of at least eleventh grade and some equipment operation experience; possessing a valid North Carolina CDL is required. This role may include 12-hour shifts seven days a week during ice and snow events.
Under immediate supervision, performs routine semi-skilled work in the operation of motorized equipment; does related work as required.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eleventh grade and some experience in the operation of motorized equipment.
Some knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing trucks and related light construction equipment; some knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; some knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; skill and care in the operation of several types of trucks and construction equipment; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. Able to work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week during ice and snow removal.
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking and lifting and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling and pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to vibration and occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
