The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation/M&O, is looking for an Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2/3 Lead (flex position) in King Salmon to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
- Equipment Operator Journey 1: $31.62 / hourly - OT Eligible
- Equipment Operator Journey 2: $33.44 / hourly - OT Eligible
- Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3: $35.53 / hourly - OT Eligible
- Equipment Operator Journey 1: Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of Highways and airports. This position will utilize various types of light duty equipment to perform maintenance activities in support of State of Alaska mission and maintenance of infrastructure. Use of heavy equipment will be in a training capacity.
- Equipment Operator Journey 2: Performs airport and highway maintenance at the State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Complies with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of highways and airports.

Performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. This position follows a two-weeks-on / two-weeks-off (2/2) rotational schedule to support continuous operations at the airport. While the Foreman is on their two weeks off, a designated Equipment Operator will serve as the Lead to maintain oversight of daily activities, ensure operational continuity, and provide on-site leadership. This structure ensures consistent coverage and supports critical airport functions throughout the rotation cycle.
This position is located in King Salmon.

- Equipment Operatory Journey 1 Hire approval is conditional in that the proposed appointee successfully obtains a Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire and signs an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
- Equipment Operator Journey 2 A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire. A conditional hire approval can only be given for endorsements. This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Equipment Operator Journey 1, Equipment Operator Journey 2, or Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3 level depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
