Pima County Department of Transportation is looking for an Equipment Operator II. This position will lead and participate in operating vehicles and equipment to meet the finish construction specification requirements for road maintenance. Responsibilities include operating graders to finish grades and establish base courses for roadways, as well as finishing grades for roads and drainageways. The role involves blade-mixing and laying bituminous road mix or asphaltic concrete, loading and securing equipment for transport, and performing minor repairs and maintenance on equipment. Additionally, the Equipment Operator II will participate in various manual labor tasks and may perform duties like those of an Equipment Operator I as needed. Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver's license is required at the time of application. Valid AZ driver’s license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine the applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. This position requires a valid Arizona Class D driver’s license at the time of application or prior to completion of initial/promotional probation. A valid Arizona commercial driver’s license (CDL), Class A, Class B, or Class C with appropriate endorsements is required. For these positions, failure to maintain the required CDL may be grounds for termination. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
Four years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment/vehicles, which may include street sweepers, water trucks, asphaltic materials distributers, front end loaders, graders/scrapers, bulldozers, backhoes, trenchers, tractors, tractor/semi‑trailer combinations and like equipment. Completion of a vocational/technical program from an accredited college or technical school in heavy equipment operations may be substituted for six months of the required experience. One years of experience as an Equipment Operator I with Pima County. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.
