Job summary

Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County in Florida is seeking a skilled equipment operator for the Transfer Station. You will operate front-end loaders, grapplers, compactors, backhoes, and related gear to keep the facility running smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Operates front-end loaders, grapplers, compactors, backhoes and related equipment for daily Transfer Station operations.
  • Inspects equipment before starting work, checks lubricants and systems, and reports malfunctions.
  • Performs minor maintenance and lubrication, as well as cleaning of equipment.
  • Performs manual tasks in transfer station operations, including drain system cleaning and grounds maintenance.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Job description

The full pay range for this position is $20.41/hour $42,452.80/annually - $35.72/hour $74,297.60 annually.

Skilled work in the operation of equipment used to move and compact refuse at a rate required for proper operation of a Transfer Station. Employees in this class must be able to operate specialized mobile equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, and grizzlies. This employee assists in the repair, upkeep and maintenance of any of the stationary equipment found on site including but not limited to; heavy equipment, tractors trailers, stationary or mobile boom grapplers. Employee is responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of equipment according to a prescribed operating plan. Work requires a high degree of manipulative skill and dexterity. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Operates any of the following types of equipment; front-end loaders, stationary and mobile grapplers, compactors, backhoes, and other related equipment as necessary for the daily operation of a Transfer Station.
  • Inspects equipment before starting work, check lubricants, cooling system, hydraulic and electrical systems and makes minor adjustments as necessary. Reports all malfunctions to Supervisory Staff.
  • Performsminormechanicalmaintenanceworkincludingdailylubricationandcleaningof equipment.
  • Performsvariousmanualtasksinvolvedintransferstationoperationsuchasthecleaningofthedrain system, grounds clean-up, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Minimum eighth (8th) grade education.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in heavy equipment operation.
  • Any combination of experience education and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
  • Valid Florida Drivers License, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A preferred.
