Job summary

City of Midland is seeking an Equipment Operator I to perform a variety of tasks including general labor and the operation of motorized equipment and hand tools used in the maintenance and construction of the City’s street and drainage infrastructure. Training on street maintenance equipment will be provided.

The incumbent works in an outside environment with frequent exposure to weather and hazards and must be able to lift materials several times daily; overtime may be required as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 6 months experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be able to perform general labor and operate motorized equipment with basic safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate light and heavy equipment and use hand tools for street and drainage maintenance.
• Perform daily preventative maintenance on equipment and tools.
• Work in outdoor environments and lift materials several times daily.

Job description

Equipment Operator I is an entry-level Equipment Operator Position. Training on street maintenance equipment will be provided. Equipment Operator I will perform a variety of tasks including general labor and the operation of motorized equipment and hand tools used in the maintenance and/or construction of the City of Midland's street and drainage infrastructure and perform daily preventative maintenance on motorized equipment and/or hand tools.

The incumbent works in an outside environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Must be able to lift working materials several times daily.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
• 6 months experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
