The purpose of this classification is to operate light equipment and perform manual work functions associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of city grounds, parks, streetlights, or right-of-ways per assigned department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate equipment, machinery, and tools used in various maintenance tasks, including dump trucks, bucket trucks, motor graders, backhoes, forklifts, mowers, tractors, trenchers, vibrators, pay loaders, hydro seeders, pressure washers, tillers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, chippers, chainsaws, shovels, rakes, and related power and hand tools.
- Perform manual work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of recreational grounds and facilities, including moving and repairing equipment, painting, trash collection, and related tasks.
- Line ball parks/fields, install fences and playground equipment, seed/mow grass, maintain irrigation systems, apply insecticide/herbicide, and maintain sports turf.
- Maintain city street and security lights, including changing bulbs and repairing cables.
- Maintain right-of-ways, ditches, and ponds, including trimming trees, removing debris, and mowing grass.
- Conduct routine maintenance on machinery and tools to ensure proper functioning.
- Prepare reports, logs, and invoices as required.
- Train and supervise part-time staff, ensuring safety compliance.
- Assist with inventory management and equipment delivery.
- Operate a two-way radio for communication.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience or training operating light equipment.
- Valid Georgia CDL with appropriate endorsements preferred; alternatively, five (5) years of light equipment operation experience.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Moderately physically demanding work involving lifting (20-50 pounds), climbing, stooping, and other physical activities.
- Ability to perceive sounds, odors, textures, and visual cues.
- Exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, humidity, rain, fumes, noise, machinery, vibrations, and toxic agents.
