Job description

Reporting to the Supervisor, Horticulture, the Equipment Operator supports exterior resort operations through the safe and efficient operation of industrial sweepers, scrubbers, and other specialized cleaning equipment. This role is responsible for maintaining parking garages, parking lots, roadways, and other guest-facing exterior areas to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. The Equipment Operator performs route-based cleaning activities, assists with exterior maintenance projects, and conducts routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and documentation in accordance with departmental standards and safety requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Operates street sweepers, scrubbers, and specialized cleaning equipment to maintain parking garages, parking lots, roadways, and exterior pedestrian areas in accordance with resort cleanliness standards; performs scheduled sweeping and scrubbing routes, including garage-by-garage rotations.
  2. Removes trash and debris from exterior areas, parking garages, parking lots, planter beds, and walkways; performs manual sweeping and detailed cleaning in areas inaccessible to equipment.
  3. Performs basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, including lubrication, fluid checks, filter replacement, battery charging, and fuel inspections; completes daily inspection logs, route logs, and other required documentation, and promptly reports equipment deficiencies or safety concerns to the Supervisor or Lead.
  4. Supports Grounds and Exterior Maintenance operations by assisting with pressure-washing water support, material staging, and project-based cleaning tasks; loads, unloads, and stages materials, equipment, and supplies as needed.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED required. Minimum two (2) years of experience operating industrial or commercial cleaning equipment, including sweepers, scrubbers, or similar maintenance equipment required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

Knowledge of the safe operation, inspection, and basic preventive maintenance of industrial sweepers, scrubbers, and similar equipment. Knowledge of cleaning standards, workplace safety practices, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, and hazard reporting procedures. Skill in safely maneuvering equipment in high-traffic and confined areas, troubleshooting minor equipment issues, and managing assigned routes efficiently. Skill in communicating effectively with supervisors, leads, and team members. Ability to work independently, follow written and verbal instructions, maintain accurate records and logs, and adapt to changing operational priorities. Ability to operate equipment for extended periods while supporting departmental and cross-functional operational needs. Military experience involving vehicle or equipment operation preferred. Experience operating equipment in facilities, grounds, landscape, or public works environments.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry Safety certification preferred.
  • Industrial Equipment Operator certification, vocational/trade school training, or related coursework in Automotive Technology, Industrial Technology, or Facilities Maintenance preferred.
  • Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS – ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands and working environment described here are representative of those that an employee encounters and must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Primary work environment is in both indoor and outdoor setting. Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences. Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally. Sedentary work: involves standing most of the time; may sit at times. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone. Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone. Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility. Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties. Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke. Reasonable accommodation will be made in compliance with all applicable law.
