Job summary

The City of Fort Worth Water Department is hiring Equipment Operators (Dump Truck) to support the Field Operations Division. This hands-on role involves operating heavy equipment, supporting water and wastewater infrastructure, and responding to emergencies that keep the city running.

You will work outdoors in all weather, lift heavy loads, and participate in an on-call rotation. A valid Texas CDL Class A is required, with a clean driving record, plus the ability to pass assessments and obtain

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid Texas CDL Class A with acceptable driving record.
• Minimum 1 year of experience operating motorized equipment including dump trucks.
• Able to pass heavy equipment test-out assessment during interview.
• Able to obtain Water Distribution Class D or Wastewater Collection I license within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Operate Dump Trucks & Equipment: load, transport, and unload heavy equipment and materials.
• Water & Wastewater Systems: assist with construction, repair, maintenance, and inspection.
• Physical Labor: perform digging, trenching, laying pipe, and material handling.
• Adhere to Safety Standards: follow regulations and safety policies.
• Field Support: assist with field operations, traffic control, and equipment maintenance.
• Tools & Equipment Operation: use hand tools and motorized equipment for tasks.
• Material Handling: load/unload materials and tools on-site.

Field Operations operates 24/7, and as such, weekend work may be required. This position serves as a first responder during severe weather and emergency situations, which means you may be called in after hours, on nights, weekends, and holidays. Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• A valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A with an acceptable driving record
• Minimum of one year of professional experience operating motorized equipment, including dump trucks with trailers
• Ability to successfully pass a test-out assessment on heavy equipment during the interview process
• Ability to obtain a TCEQ Water Distribution Class D or Wastewater Collection I license within 12 months of hire (requires passing a written test and criminal background check)
• Flexibility to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, including participating in an on-call rotation schedule
• Ability to pass a physical examination, drug screen, and education and background verification
• Must be comfortable working outdoors in extreme weather conditions and lifting up to 100 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

• At least two years of experience in construction, utility repair, fieldwork, or maintenance
• Prior experience in utilities work
• Previous experience with water or wastewater systems

The Equipment Operator job responsibilities

• Operate Dump Trucks & Equipment: Safely load, transport, and unload heavy equipment and materials using dump trucks and other motorized equipment
• Water & Wastewater Systems: Assist with the construction, repair, maintenance, and inspection of water and wastewater piping systems
• Physical Labor: Perform manual labor as needed for the installation, repair, and maintenance of water infrastructure, including digging trenches, laying pipe, and handling materials
• Adhere to Safety Standards: Ensure all work is performed in compliance with established safety regulations, procedures, and policies
• Field Support: Assist with a variety of field operations, including equipment maintenance, traffic control, and general construction tasks to support the ongoing success of the team
• Tools & Equipment Operation: Use a variety of hand tools and motorized equipment for construction, maintenance, and inspection tasks
• Material Handling: Efficiently load and unload materials, equipment, and tools on-site
