Job summary

Team Elmer's is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator for its Alpena quarry production facility. The role focuses on operating a front-end loader, performing pre-shift inspections, and maintaining quality material feed for crushing and screening.

You will work with the foreman and Aggregates Manager to ensure safe, efficient operations, potentially long hours, and weekend shifts as needed in a dry, hot environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid license, CDL preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Clean driving record for past 5 years.
  • Previous loader operator experience required with demonstrated skill.

Responsibilities

  • Operate loader and related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct daily inspections, maintenance, fueling and operation.
  • Move materials to feed crushing and screening plant to produce spec material.
  • Follow safety policies including DOT, OSHA, and MiOSHA rules.
  • Work with foreman and crew to produce high-quality end products.
  • May assist other craft workers and perform routine manual tasks.

Excavator/Loader/Rock Drill/Wheel Loader Operator - Alpena Quarry

Team Elmer's seeks to fill an opening for a skilled EquipmentOperator to work in our quarry production facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate loader.
  • Conduct daily inspections, maintenance, fueling and operation of equipment.
  • Determine what material to feed crushing and screening plant to produce spec and maintain high quality feed material.
  • Set up or inspect equipment prior to operation.
  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operator shall always maintain control of the equipment.
  • Be alert to site hazards involved with feeding from the load face of material.
  • Watch for any potential site or plant problems that are within your view.
  • Produce material that will provide the most consistent, highest quality end products, under the direction of the Foreman and Aggregate Manager.
  • Seek to operate the equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Become familiar with machine capabilities and limitations, and with efficient and safe digging procedures in a given application.
  • Receive written or oral instructions regarding material movement.
  • Move materials over short distances, such as around a construction site, yard or to loading trucks.
  • Lubricate, adjust, or repair machinery and replace parts, such as gears, bearings, etc.
  • Measure and verify levels of rock or gravel, bases, or other excavated material.
  • Perform manual labor to prepare or finish sites, such as shoveling materials by hand.
  • Know and follow all company safety policies as well as OSHA, MIOSHA, and MSHA regulations.
  • Practice safety at all times including driving of company vehicles or use of equipment. Use PPE while on jobsite e.g. hard hat safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, pants, and gloves.
  • Take initiative and anticipate what needs to be done.
  • Work in conjunction and as a team with your crew.
  • May assist other craft workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Valid license, CDL preferred or the ability to obtain within one year
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Clean driving record for past 5 years
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Previous experience as a loader operator required with the ability to demonstrate skill in operating
  • 2-3 years' experience operating a front end loader in a sand and gravel environment, preferred.
  • Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) Training, preferred but not required.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and understand your role on the team.
  • Ability to work long hours performing repetitive movements.
  • Must be able and willing to work nights and weekends when necessary
  • Ability to work in all environmental conditions but especially in a dry and hot environment for 10 or more hours a day.
  • Good work ethic, punctuality and alertness.
  • Mechanical -- Knowledge of equipment, machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to follow all company, DOT, OSHA, and MiOSHA safety rules.
