We are looking for Equipment Operatorswho will play a key role in all aspects of construction services on infrastructure projects, performing skilled functions such as working in the construction and maintenance of highways, municipal waterline systems, etc.

Highlights:

  • The selected applicant will train to become a Drilling Operator and act as a backup to drillers, while providing general support with geotechnical drilling to facilitate site sampling, analysis, and investigation.
  • Perform a variety of tasks such as inspecting and maintaining drilling equipment and vehicles, logging and packaging samples, gathering appropriate sampling tools, etc.
  • May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather.
  • ** A valid class A or class B Commercial Driver’s License is required.**

Responsibilities:

  • Operates a hydraulic crane.
  • Utilizes heavy motorized equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level soil and aggregate.
  • Utilizes heavy motorized equipment to grade surfaces, roll or compact soil and aggregate.
  • Leads or trains lower-level equipment operators.
  • Assists the Driller in positioning the drilling rig.
  • Adds rods or augers to drill.
  • Removes core samples from the core barrel.
  • Assists in cleaning and maintenance of the drilling rig and related tools and equipment.
  • Installs steel piling in pre-drilled holes.
  • Cleans the drilling site of debris after drilling is completed.
  • Sets and detonates explosive charges for earth removal.
  • Makes major repairs to highways, culverts, bridge structures, etc.
  • Makes minor mechanical repairs in the field such as changing tires, blades, or filters.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment maintenance including but not limited to cleaning and lubricating equipment and checking fluid levels
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of safety practices used in structural steel construction.
  • Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety standards and procedures in the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of basic blueprint reading.
  • Knowledge of general construction and maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of gasoline and diesel-powered engines and their components.
  • Knowledge of the operation of motor driven equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repairs.
  • Ability to safely operate basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read operation manuals, blueprints, and specifications in the area of assignment.
  • Ability to operate motorized equipment in the area of assignment.
  • Ability to perform skilled trades work in bridge construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to operate and maintain highway equipment and attachments.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of daily maintenance activities.
  • Ability to climb high steel structures.
  • Ability to train and work cooperatively with other skilled and semi-skilled workers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Training/Education:

  • No formal education required.

Required Experience:

  • (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, end loaders, dump trucks, drillers, etc.
    • Equipment Operator Experience Substitutions: Successful completion of an approved vocational school program may be substituted for two (2) year of the required experience in the specified area of assignment.
  • Experience with concrete and sidewalk construction.
  • ** A valid class A or class B Commercial Driver’s License is required.** (no substitutions).
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.
