Job summary

Capitol Aggregates is hiring an Equipment Operator in San Antonio, TX to safely operate haul trucks and related heavy equipment, moving raw materials from pits to crushers and receiving points. Job description

Position Overview

The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating haul trucks and related heavy equipment to transport raw materials from the pit or quarry to designated receiving points. This role supports quarry and plant operations by performing equipment inspections, material transport, basic servicing, and housekeeping assignments while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.

What You’ll Do
  • Operate haul trucks (typically 35 tons and above) to transport raw material from pit or quarry to crushers or receiving points.
  • Perform pre-shift inspections and safely operate assigned off-road mining and heavy equipment.
  • Operate additional equipment such as water wagons, backhoes, front-end loaders, and haul units as needed.
  • Prepare and complete daily equipment safety and inspection reports.
  • Assist with unplugging crushers and supporting continuous plant operations as required.
  • Perform plant operation and housekeeping assignments to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Assist with basic plant and equipment servicing and maintenance activities.
  • Adjust conveyor belts and support continuous conveyor operation when required.
  • Wash, service, and maintain assigned equipment to ensure readiness and safe operation.

What You’ll Bring
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to safely operate heavy off-road mining and construction equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety rules, operating instructions, and warning notices.
  • Strong awareness of safe operating practices in a hazardous mining environment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability for assigned tasks.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) year of heavy equipment operating experience required.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience in quarry, mining, or related construction operations preferred.
Other Qualifications
  • Commitment to working safely and complying with all company, plant, and MSHA safety policies.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to remain attentive, alert, and safety-focused throughout assigned shifts.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage assigned work responsibilities effectively.
