Equipment Operator # Equipment OperatorKansas City, MO 64101## OverviewPosition TypeFull Time## HDD Locator / Operator**Sellenriek Construction — Kansas City, MO**Sellenriek Construction is hiring an experienced HDD Locator / Operator to support underground utility construction crews in the Kansas City, MO area.This position is responsible for locating and/or operating horizontal directional drilling equipment used to install underground utilities. The ideal candidate has hands-on HDD field experience, understands bore plans and utility markings, and can work safely around existing underground utilities, equipment, traffic, and active jobsites.**Key Responsibilities*** Locate and/or operate horizontal directional drilling equipment for underground utility installation.* Track drill head location, depth, pitch, roll, and bore path using locating equipment.* Read and follow prints, bore plans, utility maps, and jobsite instructions.* Walk bore paths and identify potential utility conflicts, obstacles, or jobsite concerns.* Communicate clearly with drill operators, locators, foremen, and crew members during drilling operations.* Assist with potholing, daylighting, bore setup, pullback, conduit placement, and restoration.* Support trenching, excavation, hand digging, traffic control, cleanup, and general underground construction duties as needed.* Inspect equipment, tools, locating equipment, and support vehicles before use.* Perform basic maintenance and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment.* Maintain accurate field documentation as needed, including production notes, bore logs, and daily reports.* Follow company safety policies, OSHA standards, traffic control requirements, and damage-prevention procedures.Required Qualifications* Previous HDD locating and/or operating experience.* Experience working in underground utility construction.* Ability to read prints, bore plans, utility maps, and underground utility markings.* Knowledge of safe digging practices and damage-prevention procedures.* Ability to work safely around live utilities, equipment, traffic, and active jobsites.* Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with a field crew.* Ability to assist with general labor and underground construction tasks when needed.* Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.* Ability to pass required background and drug screenings.Preferred Qualifications* Class A CDL.* Experience with DigiTrak, Subsite, Falcon, or similar locating equipment.* Experience installing fiber, telecom, conduit, gas, electric, or other underground utilities.* Experience operating mini excavators, skid steers, trenchers, plows, or other utility construction equipment.* Previous experience working with HDD crews in residential, commercial, or utility right-of-way environments.
