Job summary

Montana Materials & Construction, a CRH Company, is seeking a heavy equipment operator to join our outdoor construction teams in Montana. You will run rollers, skid steers, excavators, and other equipment on projects ranging from asphalt to ground preparation.

We provide training for those with limited experience and support career growth. Expect 8–12 hour shifts, potential overtime, and a collaborative work environment on diverse projects across Montana.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
  • Experience operating construction/heavy equipment preferred.
  • Safety minded with reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to communicate with supervisors and crew clearly.
  • Ability to conform to OSHA, MSHA, and DOT rules and regulations.
  • Must join or already be a member of Operator’s Union, Local 400 within 30 days.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment safely within its designed parameters.
  • Perform pre- and post-shift inspections of equipment.
  • Excavate, move materials, and load materials into trucks.
  • Use heavy equipment to grade terrain and move structures.
  • Identify buried utilities prior to digging and ensure safe slopes.
  • Perform minor maintenance or report major problems to supervisor.
  • Assist labor crew with shoveling, raking, and asphalt placement.
  • Maintain regular attendance and contribute to a productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions)
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently by utilizing equipment within its designed parameters.
  • Performs pre and post shift inspection of equipment
  • Excavate holes and ditches and move materials
  • Load materials into trucks for hauling
  • Use heavy equipment to lift and move heavy structures and equipment
  • Use equipment to grade terrain
  • Checks necessary equipment parts to ensure proper function of equipment.
  • Responsible for safe slopes on excavations.
  • Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging.
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
  • Assist labor crew including shoveling, raking and compacting of asphalt materials.
  • Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production.
  • Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license.
  • Prior equipment operation experience in construction or related environments.
  • Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Demonstrates the willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work and communicate well with supervisor, plant personnel, and other employees.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
  • Must be a current member or join Operator’s Union, Local 400 within 30 days of hire.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.
  • Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.
Preferred Requirements
  • CDL a plus but not required.

  • VISION – 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions
  • HEARING – corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions from coworkers
