Job summary

Altec Industries, Inc. is seeking a field mechanic to service heavy equipment across multiple service centers and field locations. You will replace electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components, troubleshoot using manuals and maintenance guides, and conduct Unit Condition Inspections with precise reporting.

The ideal candidate has experience with aerial devices or heavy equipment, strong safety habits, and may work overtime as needed. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits are offered.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to move objects and tools weighing up to 75 pounds; physical dexterity.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Replace electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components on equipment.
  • Use manuals and resources (operator/parts/maintenance) for troubleshooting and parts identification.
  • Perform Unit Condition Inspections and prepare reports.
  • Keep the work area safe, clean, and organized.
  • Adhere to Altec safety practices and procedures at all times.
  • Advise supervisors of issues that may affect customer relationships.
  • Provide accurate information on required documentation.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Hourly rate and potential for overtime varies relative to experience and location. Job openings exist across the U.S. and Canada.

Pay: $35-42/hr depending on experience and skill

The Ideal Background:
  • Experience with aerial devices, digger derricks, chippers, cranes; or construction, mining, farm equipment such as excavators, skid steers, dozers or tractors; or military heavy equipment such as the MRAP vehicle, HMEE, or tanks; aircraft and aerospace or ground support equipment (AGE/GSE) or similar
  • Previous experience as a mechanic or technician, with a focus on heavy equipment
  • Education in mechanics, electrical or hydraulic systems
The Job:
  • Perform replacement of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components
  • Utilize all technical support resources (such as operator, parts, and maintenance manuals, HowFactory, etc.) in troubleshooting, determining procedures, and identifying parts needed for repair
  • Perform Unit Condition Inspections and Reports
  • Maintain work area in a safe, clean, and orderly manner
  • Perform all tasks in a manner fully consistent with Altec Safety practices and procedures
  • Advise supervisors of situations that may impact a customer relationship
  • Provide accurate and sufficient information on all required documents
  • Demonstrate Altec Company Values
  • All other duties as assigned
The Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, state-approved High School Equivalency, or GED
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills
  • Physical effort to move objects and tools that may weigh up to 75 pounds; frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling
  • A high level of dexterity
  • As needed, provide basic tools per the Altec tool policy
  • Drive motor vehicles
  • Develop basic computer skills with Microsoft office
  • Ability to support customer by working overtime
  • Advocate safety in everything we do
